SUSU Legal Scientists Published a Textbook on Digital Forensics Certified by Academic Methodological Association

The famous Yurait federal publishing house has recently published a Digital Forensics textbook, the authors of which were scientists from the Institute of Law of South Ural State University.

This is already the second edition, revised and expanded (the first one was published in 2022). The textbook is certified by the Academic Methodological Association of Higher Education and can be used in any Russian university that trains specialists in this field.

“This is a basic course divided into blocks of innovative forensic disciplines aimed at training specialists of the legal field in order to counter offenses committed in the context of creation and development of the digital economy,” says one of the authors of the textbook, Professor Sergei Zuev. “The textbook methodologically justifies conceptual provisions of the forensic study of digital information, its derivatives, processing and protection means. In terms of forensic technology and tactics, specifics of detection, recording, preliminary research and subsequent use of digital footprints are revealed. Modern information technologies used in the activities of law enforcement agencies to ensure the fight against crime are considered.”

The textbook focuses not only on theory, but also on practical forensic analysis of modern digital dangers such as the DarkNet, anonymizers or digital currencies.

The basis of the textbook became the discipline of Digital Forensics taught at the SUSU Institute of Law.

Representatives of SUSU, who worked on the textbook, were Professor of the Department of Law Enforcement and Forensic Activities, Doctor of Sciences (Law), Associate Professor Sergei Zuev, Head of the Department of Criminal Procedures, Criminal Science and Forensic Enquiry, Doctor of Sciences (Law), Associate Professor Galina Rusman, Candidate of Sciences (Law), Associate Professor of the Department of Law Enforcement and Forensic Activities Evgeniy Nikitin and Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedures, Criminal Science and Forensic Enquiry, Candidate of Sciences (Law), Associate Professor Elena Buglaeva.

Scientists from other universities also took part in creating the textbook. And the co-editor of the textbook, jointly with SUSU Professor Sergei Zuev, was Vitaliy Vekhov, academician of the Russian Academy of Economics, Professor of Bauman Moscow State Technical University National Research University.

The SUSU Institute of Law has long been cooperating with the Yurait publishing house. Over the last few years, university scientists have become the authors of such textbooks for universities as Fundamentals of Investigation Activities; Weapons Training for Law Enforcement Officers; Electronic Evidence in Criminal Proceedings; Investigation of Crimes in the Field of Computer Information and Electronic Means of Payment.
