Scientists from the Institute of Engineering and Technology Created an Unmanned Bulldozer Controlled from a Smartphone

SUSU and the DST-URAL Tractor Plant have joined forces to create a remote-control loading machine. Compared to analogues, the Russian machine wins in price on the special-purpose machinery market. This machine has already been tested for clearing snowdrifts in January 2024.

The miniature dimensions of the loader make it easy to clean hard-to-reach areas of building surrounding grounds. However, the machine is capable of working with different types of attachments, designed not only to meet municipal needs (garbage and snow collection), but also to neutralize anti-personnel mines. Now such loaders, equipped with anti-personnel mine trawls, have cleared 11.3 hectares of the territory in Donetsk People's Republic.

The control system is operated using two joysticks: movement is controlled with the left hand, and work with attachments is controlled with the right hand. Tilting the joystick to the left means a reduction in the supply to the left pump of the hydraulic transmission, the rotation of the left side track slows down, thus the machine turns. The angle of rotation is regulated by the degree of the joystick tilting, so when the joystick is tilted down almost all the way, the tractor begins to rotate around the centre of gravity.

"Our former students, and now designers of the DST-URAL Plant, have created the design documentation for all components of this tractor, and there are about 2 thousand of them. Many SUSU graduates are full-time employees of the DST-URAL Plant and begin their careers in this enterprise, often growing up to the rank of leading engineers," shared Sergei Kondakov, Professor at the Department of Wheeled and Tracked Vehicles.
