First Strategic Session of 5-100 Project Has Been Held in SUSU

On December 5, 2015 ‘Science’ recreation center of SUSU held the strategic session on building breakthrough and competitive areas of research of the University within the framework of the 5-100 Project.

The session was attended by representatives of leading scientific schools, faculties and institutions of South Ural State University. The strategic session was opened by the Rector of SUSU Alexander Shestakov who wished a fruitful collaboration in his welcoming speech to all attendees. Then leading professors, deans and heads of research centers and laboratories presented their projects. More than 40 scientific reports were heard. Major research projects of the University were proposed for consideration; the projects aimed at work on improvement of global competitiveness of the University.

Great interest of the attendees of the session was shown to the project on creation of universal energy complexes on the basis of renewable energy sources, complex energy services platforms for the extraction of hydrocarbons in the Arctic shelf, as well as to the project of creating a single-stage reusable space launch vehicle ‘Crown’ with vertical takeoff and landing, as well as to many other developments.

Particular attention was paid to computer technologies. Projects of multiscale computer modeling of new materials, life cycle management of problem-oriented services in cloud computing systems, intelligent analysis of large data solutions for scientific and industrial applications were discussed.

A number of reports related to the issues of interaction between a man and the environment were made. Informative reports of the leaders of scientific schools of the Faculty of History, Faculty of Psychology, the Institute of Economics, Trade and Technology and the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service were presented.

According to participants of the session, the idea was successful. Within the minimum period of time (the session lasted 6 hours) a unique representative cut of the scientific development of competitive trends was obtained, strategic imperatives of the further development of scientific schools of the university were determined, cross-functional communication was planned. In the future such ‘brainstorming’ is planned to be regular.
